DOMAIN NAMES:
The first step is to register a domain name (yourname.com, your name.net, etc). All web site names have to be unique so you will need to think of several possible names and hopefully find one that is not already in use. To do this, go to a registrar's web site. Next, you will need to sign up with a host. This is a company with large computers ("servers") that hold all the files that make up your web pages (pictures, text, etc.). A host also has a direct ("backbone") connection to the Internet so anyone around the world can access your site when they type in the address (URL) containing the domain name you register.
